New England Mordheim Open, Adepticon, and North East Dungeon Siege all in one month. It’s been a hell of a ride. All time time and preparation that went into all the events made it all worth it. I hope you all had as much fun as I did. It all went by in a flash and I barely documented anything. Just hanging on by the skin of my teeth. There are so many highlights but I really can’t nail them all to a post and I don’t think I should. If you weren’t there experiencing the magic in those rooms as they happened, nothing I say will be able to get across how special it all was. With that said; thank you to everyone who came and hung out, donated prizes or event items, played games, created entirely new model projects just for the events, or just watched from the sidelines and bullshitted with us. None of this would amount to much if it wasn’t for the people joining us in these things. The coming together and community that blooms from them is what really matters. Friends new and old coming together to just be in a space and have fun is all I ever cared about and I’m so glad to have shared these memories with those that joined us.
Highlights from March;
– Helping facilitate the release of casted metal mech models, commissioned by great friend, and incredible kitbasher, Evan Hough (@itswhatevan). The models were sculpted by the incredible Ana Polanšćak (@gardensofhecate). You can purchase the models from the Under the Dice store here.
– New England Mordheim Open. There is nothing I can say that would summarize the event. You’ll just have to be there next year. We had 44 players and 10 vendors. Keep your eyes out for a weekend in January. Same place, but we’ll be doing it bigger next year. Limited player slots, but no limit for people looking to hangout and game.
– Adepticon 2023 – The Grimdark Boardroom. The week truly went by in a whirlwind. Phil and I drove from Massachusetts to Schaumburg, Illinois. Truck loaded with tables, miniatures and terrain to run Schaumburg, City of the Damned. We secured a room at the convention to run Mordheim and all manner of kitbash and gaming out of. We even commandeered the hallway leading to the room for our own personal use. A huge shoutout to Matthias & Shelly at Adepticon for being so welcoming and helping us at each turn. We will be back next year and we hope to do it even bigger, with more gaming and more space for everyone to join us.
– North East Dungeon Siege 23. The gathering of darkness. It was truly a spectacle to behold. Gaming during the day ran by Gage, Terry, Paul, & myself. Gage and Terry co-DMed Forbidden Psalm for a group. Paul and I facilitated Mordheim for a group. A great day of gaming with new friends followed by a great, atmospheric Dungeonsynth show. I set up a booth at the event to sell zines, models and the last of the Basilisk tapes and it was great getting to talk to so many people. The last of the Basilisk tapes sold. I may do another pressing in the future. I’ll let you know when & if I do. We will be returning to NEDS next year for more gaming.
A busy month, and now we rest. I don’t think I ever really take a break. I currently have a lot still on the burner but I’ll be slowing down to catch my breath a little. Hive Scum is still in full effect, and next episode will cover the events in more detail. Issue 6 of Under the Dice is open for submissions. If you’d like to contribute, or have questions on how or what to submit, just shoot me an email.
