“Democracy Failed” – Dwarf Cannoneer

Hey, it’s been a minute. Projects pile up and I sometimes forget this exists. Wanted to pop in with a little “what I’ve been up to”. As of recently – it’s been playing 6th edition Fantasy Battle, as well as Necromunda. Hobby time has been a bit limited with house projects, work and Under the Dice Fest prep, but I still try to sneak a couple hours in a week.

A week ago I played a game of 6th with my friends Dean, Alex and Miles. It was a 4 player game, 2000 pts per side, 1000 pts per player. Dean played Skaven paired with Miles’ Orcs&Goblins. I teamed up with Alex and his Beastmen, we came up with the idea that my Dwarves were on the path of Chaos and the Beastmen herd make their home in the forest outside their mountain hold. Miles & I started playing Warhammer years ago when 6th edition was current. We haven’t played in many years, and Alex and Dean had only dabbled in OPR Regiments, so it was something fresh for everyone.

Skaven teamed up with Orcs&Goblins vs Beastmen that have made an uneasy alliance with (chaos?) Dwarves

We played a center objective, King of the Hill style game. The Dwarves and Beastmen managed to beat off the green tide and vermin due to some squabbling goblins and tactical mishaps (as well as not realizing you could not charge the same turn you ambush a unit in). Regardless, their names were noted in my book of grudges.

I’m excited to get some more games of 6th edition in. Despite a few mixups & rules mistakes the game was a good learning experience and we were all able to have some laughs. Fumbles, a crashing gyrocopter and pizza amongst friends made for a great Saturday!

The Dwarves of the Broken Peaks

I’ve been chipping away at my Dwarves for a few months now. It originally started as an excuse to join the Crown of Command podcast challenge, but I had started late and fell a bit behind, so now it’s just a good excuse to paint dwarves and play rank and flank. As of now these are for 6th edition but I have been eyeballing Battle March to play with some of the guys at the studio when the dust settles post UTD.

This started mostly as a passion project to push myself further with my painting abilities. So much so I even subbed to the legend Koltti’s patreon for some painting tutorials. It’s been enjoyable to see the units come together, make unit fillers and push my skills as a painter.

My little book of grudges. Includes a portion of my paint scheme reminder. This recipe is inspired by Koltti’s ogre mercenary captain skin tone tutorial.

The army mainly consists of classic Kev Adams sculpts. So far only two models in the entire army are doubles and it’s been really fun painting so many different models with so much character.

The Dwarves of the Broken Peaks!

I’ll give a quick summary of the units I have and where I want to go with the army. It’s in various stages of paint and basing. I try not o get a brown zenithal primer on everything immediately after assembling the units so I can pick up and chip away at stuff as I am in the mood. This gives me variety and helps prevent burnout. Models assembled and primed with varying states of paint:

1 Thane

1 Runepriest

20x Warriors

10x Warriors w. Great weapons

10x Crossbowmen

10x Slayers

10x Thunderers

1x Gyrocopter

1x Organ gun

1x Cannon

It’s a bit of a mixed force. I’d like to get some Rangers, Miners, Longbeards and an Anvil of Doom. If anyone has a recommendation or link to unique dwarves I don’t have already, please send it my way!

The Congregation of the Benevolent Choir

I also had a beach day with my friend Sam who visited from the UK! You just cant take wargamers anywhere.

That’s all for now. I’ll try to update on the dwarves more regularly as I chip away at units or if I get any new models for it. Thanks for looking!
